In-person · Augusta, GAElectrical safety training in Augusta, GA
Augusta sits between the largest nuclear plant in the country at Vogtle, the Department of Energy's Savannah River Site and the Army's cyber headquarters at Fort Gordon. We train the electrical crews who keep those sites and the region's golf car, paper and chemical plants running, at your facility or in an in-person class we set up in Augusta when you ask.
Private employers in Georgia are inspected by federal OSHA. Every class is live, on the 2027 edition of NFPA 70E, and taught by a Certified Safety Professional. Georgia electrical safety training requirements →

Four ways to train your Augusta crew
Crews we train in and around Augusta: nuclear generation, doe contractors, defense and cyber, vehicle manufacturing, paper and chemicals, healthcare.
What the class covers for Augusta crews
Refueling outages at Vogtle bring contractors from across the country onto one site for a few weeks. We cover host and contract employer duties so incoming crews and plant staff share hazard information the same way.
Golf car and utility vehicle lines in Augusta, plus U.S. Battery's lead-acid plant, put DC charging and stored energy on the factory floor. The 2-Day Intensive covers batteries and DC systems along with plant AC distribution.
Chlor-alkali cells, paper machines and fertilizer compressors draw huge currents through rectifiers and large drives. We cover how those loads change shock and arc flash risk compared with ordinary panels.
Many workers live in Georgia and work in South Carolina, or the reverse. We point out how federal OSHA in Georgia, SC OSHA across the river and DOE rules at Savannah River differ while the work practices stay the same.

Georgia: what applies to your crews
Enforcement: federal OSHA
Georgia has no state plan, so federal OSHA covers private employers in Richmond and Columbia counties and public employees go uncovered. North Augusta and Aiken are in South Carolina, where the SC OSHA state plan covers both private and public employers, and work at Savannah River falls under DOE's worker safety rule instead of OSHA.
Licensing: Class I and Class II
Georgia licenses electrical contractors through the State Construction Industry Licensing Board. A Class I license is restricted to single-phase work up to 200 amperes, while Class II is unrestricted, and both require four years of documented experience and a PSI exam.
Where NFPA 70E fits
NFPA 70E is written by NFPA, not OSHA, and OSHA does not enforce it. Augusta employers use it to show how they meet 1910 Subpart S and 1926 Subpart K, and OSHA can still cite the General Duty Clause for recognized electrical hazards.
Augusta's electrical work environment
Plant Vogtle is about 26 miles from Augusta in Burke County, near Waynesboro. Unit 3 went commercial in July 2023 and Unit 4 in April 2024, after a build that ran about seven years late and past $35 billion. Southern Nuclear operates all four reactors for owners Georgia Power, Oglethorpe Power, MEAG and Dalton Utilities, and refueling outages bring waves of contract electricians into the area.
Across the Savannah River in South Carolina, the Savannah River Site covers about 310 square miles of Aiken, Barnwell and Allendale counties. It holds the country's only tritium facilities and H Canyon, the last operating industrial-scale reprocessing plant, and the unfinished MOX building is being converted into a plutonium pit facility expected to open in 2032.
On the Georgia side, Fort Gordon hosts Army Cyber Command at Fortitude Hall and NSA Georgia. The post was renamed Fort Eisenhower in 2023 and returned to Fort Gordon in June 2025. Manufacturing runs from E-Z-GO Textron and Club Car golf cars to Graphic Packaging's bleached paperboard mill, Nutrien's nitrogen fertilizer plant, Olin chlor-alkali and the Starbucks soluble coffee plant, while the medical district employs more than 25,000 people.
Nuclear, defense and industry along the Savannah River
These are the CSRA sites with the heaviest electrical work. Several of them sit on the South Carolina side, under different rules than Augusta itself.
| Site | What is there | Status |
|---|---|---|
| Plant Vogtle Units 1 and 2 Southern Nuclear | Two Westinghouse pressurized water reactors of about 1,215 MW each in Burke County. | Operating |
| Plant Vogtle Units 3 and 4 Southern Nuclear | AP1000 reactors that entered commercial service in July 2023 and April 2024. | Operating |
| Savannah River Site U.S. Department of Energy | 310 square mile nuclear site run by Savannah River Nuclear Solutions and Savannah River Mission Completion. | Operating |
| Savannah River Plutonium Processing Facility U.S. Department of Energy | Former MOX plant being converted to make at least 50 plutonium pits a year, expected to open in 2032. | Under construction |
| Fort Gordon U.S. Army | Home of Army Cyber Command, the Cyber Center of Excellence and NSA Georgia. | Operating |
| E-Z-GO plant Textron Specialized Vehicles | Golf car and utility vehicle manufacturing with about 1,350 employees. | Operating |
| Augusta paperboard mill Graphic Packaging International | Bleached paperboard mill with about 960 employees. | Operating |
| Augusta nitrogen plant Nutrien | Nitrogenous fertilizer production in Augusta with about 390 employees. | Operating |
Georgia Power, Vogtle and the public power partners
Georgia Power serves the Augusta area and owns 45.7% of Vogtle. The rest belongs to Oglethorpe Power, which supplies Georgia's electric membership cooperatives, MEAG, which supplies municipal systems, and Dalton Utilities, so Vogtle output reaches customers through several different distribution utilities. In December 2025 the Georgia PSC certified about 9,885 MW of new generation for 2028 through 2031, much of it gas and battery storage.
The industrial plants along the river run their own large distribution systems. Chlor-alkali, paperboard and fertilizer production use rectifiers, large motors and plant substations, and Stevens Creek Dam downstream adds hydro generation to the local mix. A complete lockout procedure at these sites often starts at the utility tie and ends at equipment several voltage levels down.
