In-person · Baton Rouge, LAElectrical safety training in Baton Rouge, LA
Baton Rouge anchors the upriver end of Louisiana's chemical corridor, with ExxonMobil's refinery and chemical complex inside the city, Dow's Plaquemine site across the river and a new gas and data center campus proposed in Ascension Parish. We train the electrical crews who maintain those units, at your facility or in an in-person class we set up in Baton Rouge when you ask.
Private employers in Louisiana are inspected by federal OSHA. Every class is live, on the 2027 edition of NFPA 70E, and taught by a Certified Safety Professional. Louisiana electrical safety training requirements →

Four ways to train your Baton Rouge crew
Crews we train in and around Baton Rouge: refining, chemical manufacturing, industrial contractors, state government, higher education, port and terminal operations.
What the class covers for Baton Rouge crews
The 2020 fire on a boiler fuel line took most of a crude train down at once. We tie electrical isolation to process and fuel system shutdowns so restarts are planned with every energy source in view.
Much of the corridor's maintenance and turnaround work is done by contract firms. We cover the host and contract employer information exchange and who owns each part of the electrical safety program.
Dow's Plaquemine site and other river plants run on-site generation and steam. We cover lockout and switching where plant generation, utility ties and standby units can all feed the same bus.
State agencies, LSU facilities and parish departments are outside OSHA in Louisiana. We help those employers adopt NFPA 70E by policy and train to it.

Louisiana: what applies to your crews
Enforcement: federal OSHA
Louisiana has no state plan. One federal OSHA office, the Baton Rouge Area Office, covers all 64 parishes. Employees of the state, parishes, municipalities and school boards have no OSHA coverage.
Licensing: contractor-based
The Louisiana State Licensing Board for Contractors in Baton Rouge licenses electrical contractors above set project values. There is no statewide journeyman or master electrician license, so individual credentials vary by parish and city.
Where NFPA 70E fits
OSHA is not the enforcer of NFPA 70E. Baton Rouge plants use it as their method for meeting OSHA 1910 Subpart S and 1926 Subpart K, and the General Duty Clause lets OSHA cite a recognized hazard no specific rule covers.
Baton Rouge's electrical work environment
ExxonMobil's Baton Rouge complex is the city's industrial core. The refinery is rated at about 502,500 barrels a day, and the site adds chemical, lubricants and polyethylene plants. ExxonMobil funded a polypropylene unit there in 2019 to add up to 450,000 tons a year, built by Turner Industries and Jacobs, and in 2021 began a $240 million refinery upgrade that retained about 1,300 refinery jobs. In February 2020 a fire on a natural gas line feeding boiler fuel shut three of the refinery's four crude units, and a 2016 alkylation unit fire critically injured two operators and two contractors.
The industrial base runs well past the city line. Dow's Louisiana Operations near Plaquemine has 15 production units, generates much of its own power and steam, and is the largest employer in Iberville and West Baton Rouge parishes, with more than 4,000 Dow and contract workers statewide. St. Gabriel has about 30 large petrochemical plants within a 10-mile radius, and in Geismar a 2013 explosion at the Williams Olefins plant killed two workers and injured more than 70.
New load is coming to the corridor. In August 2026 ONE Nuclear announced Project Cayman, a 2.88 GW natural gas plant with 700 MW of battery storage and a co-located data center campus near the RiverPlex MegaPark in Ascension Parish. The Port of Greater Baton Rouge, based in Port Allen, covers 85 miles of the Mississippi across four parishes and is the farthest upstream port that can handle Panamax ships. State government and LSU keep a large public workforce busy as well.
Refining, chemicals and new power on the upper river corridor
These are the Baton Rouge area sites where plant electricians and contractors spend most of their hours. Most run around the clock and take outages only during planned turnarounds.

Entergy Louisiana and the river plants
Entergy Louisiana serves about 1.1 million electric customers in 58 of Louisiana's 64 parishes as of December 2025, including Baton Rouge, and Entergy companies employ about 4,500 people in the state. The large river plants typically take service at their own substations, and Dow describes its Plaquemine and St. Charles sites as generating electricity and steam on site.
Hurricanes test that system. Laura in 2020 caused the largest power outage in Baton Rouge since Isaac in 2012, even though it came ashore near Cameron, far to the west. New generation such as the proposed Project Cayman plant in Ascension Parish adds more sources and more switching to the regional picture, and every plant that rides out a storm on its own generation and then reconnects faces the switching sequences where written procedures matter most.
