In-person · Chattanooga, TNElectrical safety training in Chattanooga, TN
Chattanooga is a TVA town, with the agency's power operations downtown and Sequoyah Nuclear Plant and Raccoon Mountain a short drive away. We train the electricians and technicians who keep the city's plants, utilities and buildings running, at your facility or in an in-person class we set up in Chattanooga when you ask.
Tennessee runs its own OSHA-approved state plan. Private employers here are inspected by Tennessee Occupational Safety and Health Administration (TOSHA), Tennessee Department of Labor and Workforce Development, not federal OSHA. Every class is live, on the 2027 edition of NFPA 70E, and taught by a Certified Safety Professional. Tennessee electrical safety training requirements →

Four ways to train your Chattanooga crew
Crews we train in and around Chattanooga: power generation and utilities, automotive manufacturing, industrial and food manufacturing, data centers, healthcare and insurance campuses, electrical contractors.
What the class covers for Chattanooga crews
EPB's smart grid reroutes power around faults on its own, and EPB credits it with avoiding nearly 31 million customer outage minutes in a year. A circuit that went dead can be fed again from another direction, so we stress verifying absence of voltage every time.
Contractors who rotate through plant outages work under the host's switching and clearance rules. We cover how host and contract employers share information and responsibility for energized work.
Robotic lines and dense 480 V distribution put maintenance techs into energized diagnostic work daily. We spend time on when troubleshooting live is justified and how to set it up.
Tennessee has no statewide journeyman card. A city license or a state LLE shows installation knowledge, and your training records have to show NFPA 70E qualification.

Tennessee: what applies to your crews
Enforcement: TOSHA
Tennessee runs an OSHA-approved state plan through TOSHA, part of the Department of Labor and Workforce Development, with a field office in Chattanooga. It covers private employers and state and local government.
Licensing: state contractor, local journeyman
The Board for Licensing Contractors licenses electrical contractors for projects of $25,000 and up and issues the Limited Licensed Electrician credential for smaller work. The City of Chattanooga issues its own journeyman license through its Land Development Office.
Where NFPA 70E fits
NFPA 70E is a consensus standard. TOSHA and employers use it as the benchmark for how the electrical work practice requirements in 1910 Subpart S and 1926 Subpart K are met, and 1910.269 applies at generation and utility sites.
Chattanooga's electrical work environment
Few mid-sized cities have this much generation and grid work within a half hour of downtown. TVA's power generation and distribution organization is headquartered here. Sequoyah's two units sit up the river in Soddy-Daisy, Chickamauga Dam spans the Tennessee inside the city, and Raccoon Mountain pumps water uphill at night to generate when demand peaks.
Manufacturing is the other half. Volkswagen's Chattanooga Assembly Plant has run since 2011 and ended ID.4 assembly in April 2026 to focus on the new Atlas. Around it sit suppliers, foundries, food plants and distribution centers along I-75 and I-24, plus a growing data center presence that includes DC BLOX.
A Chattanooga electrician can spend a week on an outage at a TVA site and the next on a robot cell at an auto supplier. Each job brings different owners, procedures and enforcement questions.
EPB and TVA
EPB, Chattanooga's public power company, distributes TVA power across a 600-square-mile area and runs the fiber network that reaches every home and business in it. Its automated switching changes how crews and contractors should think about a de-energized line.
TVA itself generates and transmits the power. Work at TVA plants and other federal facilities can fall under different OSHA jurisdiction than a private plant down the road, so confirm who has jurisdiction before the job starts.
