In-person · Coeur d'Alene, IDElectrical safety training in Coeur d'Alene, ID
Coeur d'Alene is the headquarters town for Hecla Mining, the gateway to the Silver Valley mines along I-90, and part of Avista's North Idaho service area, where planned wildfire shutoffs are now a summer reality. We train the electrical crews who keep North Idaho's mines, hospitals and plants running, at your facility or in an in-person class we set up in Coeur d'Alene when you ask.
Private employers in Idaho are inspected by federal OSHA. Every class is live, on the 2027 edition of NFPA 70E, and taught by a Certified Safety Professional. Idaho electrical safety training requirements →

Four ways to train your Coeur d'Alene crew
Crews we train in and around Coeur d'Alene: mining, utilities, healthcare, manufacturing, hospitality, public employers.
What the class covers for Coeur d'Alene crews
Underground mines run on medium voltage feeders, hoist drives and ventilation fans that cannot fail. We cover risk assessment and verification on that gear for electricians who also do work above ground.
Avista's planned outages can last more than a day. We cover safe generator use, transfer switching and avoiding backfeed when businesses and hospitals run on backup power.
Hospital electricians maintain generators, transfer switches and essential circuits that must stay live. We cover justifying energized work and planning it so patient care is not interrupted.
Knife production lines and roller coaster fabrication use motors, drives and welding power. We cover troubleshooting on that equipment without unnecessary exposure.

Idaho: what applies to your crews
Enforcement: federal OSHA and MSHA
Idaho has no state plan. Kootenai County employers fall under the federal OSHA Boise Area Office, Silver Valley mines under MSHA, and public employees have no OSHA coverage.
Licensing: DOPL
Idaho electricians are licensed statewide by the Division of Occupational and Professional Licenses under Idaho Electrical Board rules. Many North Idaho electricians also work across the line in Washington, which runs its own license and state plan.
Where NFPA 70E fits
In North Idaho, as everywhere, OSHA does not enforce NFPA 70E. North Idaho employers use it to show how they meet OSHA 1910 Subpart S and 1926 Subpart K, and the General Duty Clause still applies to recognized electrical hazards.
Coeur d'Alene's electrical work environment
Hecla Mining keeps its headquarters in Coeur d'Alene and runs the Lucky Friday silver mine in Mullan, in the Silver Valley along I-90. Lucky Friday produced about 1.34 million ounces of silver in the second quarter of 2025, set a quarterly milling record of 114,475 tons and has a reserve life of about 17 years. Deep underground mining at this scale depends on hoists, ventilation fans and the surface cooling project Hecla was building in 2025.
Mine power is not routine. In August 2023 a fire caused a fall of ground in Lucky Friday's No. 2 shaft, the mine's secondary exit, and production was suspended while crews put out the fire before restoring normal ventilation. No one was in the mine at the time. MSHA was notified, and the event shows how much of a mine's safety rides on fans, hoists and the power that runs them.
In town, Kootenai Health runs a 329-bed hospital and Level III trauma center and is the county's largest employer. Buck Knives moved its headquarters and factory to Post Falls in 2005, Rocky Mountain Construction builds roller coasters in Hayden, and the 18-story Coeur d'Alene Resort anchors the lake. Tourism and hospitality employed more than 10,000 people in North Idaho in 2010.

Avista, the co-op and summer shutoffs
Avista, headquartered in Spokane, serves about 422,000 electric customers across eastern Washington, northern Idaho and part of Oregon, and supplies both power and gas in Coeur d'Alene. Kootenai Electric Cooperative serves other parts of the area. Avista's Post Falls Dam has generated on the Spokane River since 1906.
Wildfire now shapes summer operations. On July 31, 2026, Avista warned that up to 17,678 customers in about 20 areas between Grangeville and Rathdrum could lose power in a planned shutoff, possibly for more than 24 hours, and told customers to check generator fuel for several days. For employers that means more time on backup power and more manual transfers, both of which are electrical work.
