In-person · Corpus Christi, TXElectrical safety training in Corpus Christi, TX
Corpus Christi moves more than 200 million tons of cargo a year through its ship channel, most of it crude, refined products and LNG, and it is home to the world's largest helicopter repair depot. We train the electrical crews who work the refineries, terminals and plants of the Coastal Bend, at your facility or in an in-person class we set up in Corpus Christi when you ask.
Private employers in Texas are inspected by federal OSHA. Every class is live, on the 2027 edition of NFPA 70E, and taught by a Certified Safety Professional. Texas electrical safety training requirements →

Four ways to train your Corpus Christi crew
Crews we train in and around Corpus Christi: refining, lng, petrochemical and steel, military depot maintenance, port and terminal operations, public employers.
What the class covers for Corpus Christi crews
Cheniere has added midscale trains in sequence, with more still under construction. We cover the boundary between construction and operating rules as each train's switchgear and motor control centers go live.
Flint Hills, Valero and CITGO plants run large motors, MCCs and unit substations. Breaker racking, switching and control circuit troubleshooting take a large share of class time.
The Sinton steel mill and the San Patricio County cracker draw very large electrical loads. We cover the stored energy and high available fault current that come with that scale of equipment.
Hurricanes and corrosive coastal air both degrade electrical equipment. We cover evaluating damaged or corroded gear before re-energizing and how condition affects the risk assessment.

Texas: what applies to your crews
Enforcement: federal OSHA
Texas has no state plan. Nueces and San Patricio counties are covered by the federal OSHA Corpus Christi Area Office. City, county, port and school district employees are outside OSHA coverage entirely.
Licensing: TDLR
TDLR licenses electricians statewide, including journeyman industrial and maintenance electrician classes common in plants. License continuing education covers the NEC and state rules, not arc flash and shock work practices.
Where NFPA 70E fits
OSHA itself does not enforce NFPA 70E. Coastal Bend employers rely on it to show how they meet OSHA 1910 Subpart S and 1926 Subpart K, and OSHA can cite the General Duty Clause when a recognized hazard is left uncontrolled.
Corpus Christi's electrical work environment
Energy exports define the Corpus Christi economy. The ship channel handled 203.4 million tons in 2025, including 127.4 million tons of crude oil and 18.6 million tons of LNG. Inside the city, Flint Hills Resources runs two refineries with a combined 350,000 barrels a day, and Valero and CITGO operate refineries of their own.
Across the bay in San Patricio County, the industrial build-out continues. Cheniere's Corpus Christi Liquefaction on the La Quinta Ship Channel now runs 10 trains, and Midscale Trains 8 and 9 are under construction after a June 2025 investment decision. Gulf Coast Growth Ventures, the ExxonMobil and SABIC complex, started its 1.8 million tonne ethane cracker in 2022, and Steel Dynamics rolled its first coil at its Sinton electric arc furnace mill the same year.
Military maintenance adds a different kind of electrical work. Corpus Christi Army Depot is the world's largest rotary-wing repair facility, with more than 2.2 million square feet of industrial space and 2,415 direct employees in 2025. The depot sits on Naval Air Station Corpus Christi, the city's single largest employer with about 6,200 civilian jobs.

AEP Texas and the ERCOT grid
AEP Texas owns the poles and wires in Corpus Christi and is headquartered on North Carancahua Street downtown. It serves about 1.12 million customers across 93 counties and nearly 100,000 square miles of south and west Texas, with more than 45,000 miles of distribution line. Customers buy power from retail providers in the competitive Texas market.
The large industrial sites around the bay take service at transmission voltage and run their own substations. LNG trains, the cracker and the steel mill each carry utility-class switchgear inside the fence. For crews, that means medium and high voltage switching is part of routine plant maintenance, not just a utility task.
