In-person · Flint, MIElectrical safety training in Flint, MI
Flint is where General Motors was founded, and GM is still putting more than $1 billion into its Flint truck operations. We train the plant electricians, maintenance techs and contractors who work across Genesee County, at your facility or in an in-person class we set up in Flint when you ask.
Michigan runs its own OSHA-approved state plan. Private employers here are inspected by Michigan Occupational Safety and Health Administration (MIOSHA), Department of Labor and Economic Opportunity, not federal OSHA. Every class is live, on the 2027 edition of NFPA 70E, and taught by a Certified Safety Professional. Michigan electrical safety training requirements →
Among the teams we have trained in the last year
Four ways to train your Flint crew
Crews we train in and around Flint: automotive assembly and stamping, auto suppliers and manufacturing, healthcare, universities and colleges, water and public works, electrical contractors.
What the class covers for Flint crews
New automation going into aging buildings creates mismatches between the arc flash study and the equipment on the floor. We cover when a change triggers a study update and what to do in the meantime.
Automotive maintenance runs on live diagnostics of robots, PLC panels and drives. We cover when energized work is justified and how the permit and job briefing should read.
Michigan licenses journeyman and master electricians, and renewal training focuses on code changes. A license alone does not make a worker NFPA 70E qualified. Our individual qualification form and documented Competency Check fill that gap.
Water treatment, hospitals and schools in Flint are covered by MIOSHA as public employers. We train in-house electrical and maintenance staff on the same footing as private crews.

Michigan: what applies to your crews
Enforcement: MIOSHA
Michigan runs an OSHA-approved state plan through MIOSHA. It covers private employers and state and local government, and Michigan citations use its own Part numbers in place of the federal ones.
Licensing: state journeyman and master
Michigan licenses journeyman and master electricians and electrical contractors statewide under the Skilled Trades Regulation Act. Renewal training covers code changes, which is separate from safe work practice training.
Where NFPA 70E fits
NFPA 70E is not an OSHA or MIOSHA regulation. It is the consensus standard employers and inspectors use to show how the electrical safe work practice requirements are met.
Flint's electrical work environment
Flint Assembly builds GM's heavy-duty pickups, and in 2023 GM committed $788 million there and $233 million at the Flint Metal Center for the next generation of those trucks. That kind of retooling puts new robots, drives and controls into a plant whose electrical service dates back decades.
The north side carries the history. Buick City was once GM's largest Flint complex, with its own substations and powerhouse. Most of it was demolished after 2010, and a Lear seat plant opened on 33 acres of the site in 2018. In 2026 a data center developer showed interest in the remaining land, and the city council responded with a 12-month pause on data center permits.
Hurley Medical Center, Kettering University, Mott Community College and the city's water plant round out the electrical workload. Many local electricians move between all of them in a year.
Consumers Energy and on-site plant power
Consumers Energy is the electric utility for the Flint area. Large plants take service at high voltage and run their own substations and distribution, so in-house electricians end up maintaining equipment that looks a lot like the utility's.
Buick City shows how much private infrastructure a single complex can carry, with north and south primary substations and its own powerhouse. Sites like that are why the remaining land draws interest from heavy power users, and why redevelopment work brings crews into contact with old electrical systems of uncertain condition.
