In-person · Lake Charles, LAElectrical safety training in Lake Charles, LA
Lake Charles sits on the Calcasieu Ship Channel with two large refineries and a belt of chemical plants on its west side, and three LNG export terminals operating or under construction in Cameron Parish to the south. We train the electrical crews who keep Southwest Louisiana's plants and terminals running, at your facility or in an in-person class we set up in Lake Charles when you ask.
Private employers in Louisiana are inspected by federal OSHA. Every class is live, on the 2027 edition of NFPA 70E, and taught by a Certified Safety Professional. Louisiana electrical safety training requirements →

Four ways to train your Lake Charles crew
Crews we train in and around Lake Charles: lng, refining and chemicals, industrial contractors, aviation maintenance, casinos and hospitality, public employers.
What the class covers for Lake Charles crews
CP2 is going up next to an operating Calcasieu Pass, and Cameron LNG plans to expand around its three running trains. We cover the boundary between construction areas and energized equipment and the handoff to an operating electrically safe work program.
Equipment damaged by Laura and Delta was repaired or replaced across the region. We cover inspecting and documenting storm-repaired gear so the arc flash risk assessment reflects what is actually installed.
Restoration in Southwest Louisiana relies on portable and standby generators. We cover backfeed, grounding and the release of a shock victim from energized equipment.
Citgo's depentanizer and the Phillips 66 upgrade, which adds a steam turbine generator, bring new tie-ins into running units. We cover how new equipment and generation change the arc flash risk assessment before anyone works near it.

Louisiana: what applies to your crews
Enforcement: federal OSHA
There is no Louisiana state plan, and Calcasieu and Cameron parishes are served by the federal OSHA Baton Rouge Area Office. Parish, city, port authority and school board workers are not covered by OSHA.
Licensing: contractor-based
Electrical contractors are licensed by the Louisiana State Licensing Board for Contractors when a job exceeds set dollar thresholds. Journeyman and master credentials are local, and many workers on a mixed crew may hold none.
Where NFPA 70E fits
NFPA 70E carries no OSHA enforcement of its own. Southwest Louisiana employers use it to demonstrate compliance with OSHA 1910 Subpart S and 1926 Subpart K, and OSHA can reach recognized electrical hazards through the General Duty Clause.
Lake Charles's electrical work environment
Refining and chemicals line the Calcasieu Ship Channel, which carries ocean-going ships about 34 miles to the Gulf. Citgo's Lake Charles refinery, first commissioned in 1944, reached 479,000 barrels a day after a 2023 upgrade and later debottlenecking, and in September 2026 Citgo approved a $310 million depentanizer project targeted for 2029. Phillips 66 runs a 264,000 barrel a day refinery nearby and has sought state incentives for a $99 million upgrade that includes a 5 MW steam turbine generator.
Chemical plants fill the west bank. Sasol built an $8.1 billion ethane cracker and derivatives complex at its existing site near Lake Charles after a 2014 investment decision, and Westlake Chemical runs large chemical operations in the area. Citgo, Westlake and Turner Industries each employ more than 1,000 people locally, and Turner supplies much of the contract maintenance and turnaround labor.
LNG is the growth story in Cameron Parish. Cameron LNG in Hackberry runs three liquefaction trains and asked FERC in October 2025 for more time on its planned expansion. Venture Global's Calcasieu Pass produced its first LNG in 2022 and started commercial operations in April 2025, while CP2 next door is under construction with Phase 1 expected to reach commercial operation in 2029 and Phase 2 in 2030. Hurricane Laura's 150 mph landfall at Cameron in August 2020, followed weeks later by Delta, destroyed transmission towers feeding the region.
Refineries, chemical plants and LNG on the Calcasieu
These are the Southwest Louisiana sites where electrical crews are busiest. Refining and chemicals cluster around Lake Charles, Westlake and Sulphur, and LNG is concentrated in Cameron Parish.

Entergy Louisiana, Cleco and storm-hardened service
Entergy Louisiana serves the city of Lake Charles and about 1.1 million electric customers statewide as of December 2025. Cleco Power, with about 298,000 customers in 24 parishes, also lists Calcasieu Parish in its territory, so a contractor working across the parish can meet both utilities' service equipment. Entergy broke ground in 2018 on its 994 MW Lake Charles Power Station in Westlake.
Inside the fences, the large sites carry their own distribution and in some cases their own generation, and the Phillips 66 upgrade would add a steam turbine generator. Laura showed how fragile the transmission links into the region are, with towers down and some areas told to expect outages lasting weeks. Every standby generator, plant turbine and transfer switch is another source that a written lockout procedure must cover.
