Electrical safety training in Mount Pleasant, WI

Mount Pleasant is home to Microsoft's Fairwater AI campus, built on the land once set aside for Foxconn, with more buildings already approved. We train the electricians and technicians who build, commission and run it, at your facility or in an in-person class we set up in Racine County when you ask.

Private employers in Wisconsin are inspected by federal OSHA. Every class is live, on the 2027 edition of NFPA 70E, and taught by a Certified Safety Professional. Wisconsin electrical safety training requirements →

What the class covers for Mount Pleasant crews

Energizing next to live halls.

On a campus that grows building by building, crews pull cable and set gear a short walk from halls already carrying load. We cover how to establish an electrically safe work condition and verify it when the source may be fed from an operating building.

DC power and liquid-cooled AI loads.

AI training halls bring high-density power distribution, large UPS and battery systems, and cooling equipment that must keep running. The 2-Day Intensive covers DC systems and stored energy in depth.

Licensed does not mean qualified.

Wisconsin licenses electricians statewide, but a license is not an NFPA 70E qualification. The employer still decides who is qualified for each task and documents it.

New operations technicians.

Microsoft has said it expects about 500 full-time employees at the first data center, many in critical environment roles. Newer technicians need the hazard training before they are assigned switching or maintenance tasks.

Wisconsin: what applies to your crews

Enforcement: federal OSHA

Wisconsin has no OSHA state plan, so private employers in Mount Pleasant fall under federal OSHA through its Milwaukee Area Office. Public employers are covered separately under a state program run by the Department of Safety and Professional Services.

Licensing: statewide electrician licenses

Since April 2014 Wisconsin has required DSPS licenses for master, journeyman, industrial journeyman and residential electricians, plus registration for apprentices and beginning electricians. Electrical contractors need their own license.

Where NFPA 70E fits

NFPA 70E is a consensus standard. Employers and federal inspectors use it to show how the electrical requirements in OSHA 1910 Subpart S and 1926 Subpart K are met, and OSHA can cite the General Duty Clause for a recognized arc flash hazard.

Mount Pleasant's electrical work environment

Mount Pleasant is a Racine County village of about 28,000, roughly 30 miles south of Milwaukee and 60 miles north of Chicago. In 2017 it set aside land for a $10 billion Foxconn display plant that was never built. Microsoft took over much of that land and announced its Fairwater AI data center there in September 2025.

The first data center was confirmed operational in June 2026. A second is under construction, and the village approved 15 more buildings in January 2026. The first phase alone covers 315 acres and three buildings totaling 1.2 million square feet.

That leaves the village with two workforces on the same site. Construction and commissioning crews are still energizing new gear while operations staff run the halls that are already live.

Power

We Energies and the Mount Pleasant load

We Energies serves Mount Pleasant. The first phase of the Microsoft campus was expected to need up to 400 MW, about 7.5 percent of the utility's maximum capacity, and Microsoft later estimated about 900 MW.

To meet that load, the Public Service Commission approved a 1,100 MW gas plant in Oak Creek and a 128 MW engine plant in Kenosha County. New substations, transmission and generation around the campus put utility-class switchgear and protective relaying in front of crews who may have spent their careers on commercial work.

Questions from Mount Pleasant employers

Do you have a scheduled class in Mount Pleasant?
Not on a fixed calendar. In-person classes in Mount Pleasant are set up on request. Tell us how many people you have and roughly when, and we will come back with a date and a written quote. If your group is large enough, the class runs at your own facility.
Can you train our crew while they are working on the Microsoft campus?
Yes. We schedule around your shift and the site's badging and escort requirements. Tell us the crew size and where they work, and we will set up the class at your shop, a nearby training room or a space on site.
Does Wisconsin enforce NFPA 70E?
No state agency enforces it as a rule. Federal OSHA covers private employers in Wisconsin, and NFPA 70E is the consensus standard used to show how OSHA's electrical requirements are met. OSHA can also cite the General Duty Clause for a recognized arc flash hazard.
Do you cover battery and DC hazards for data center work?
Yes. The 2-Day Intensive covers UPS and battery systems, DC hazards and stored energy in depth, which is what most operations and commissioning crews need on an AI campus.
Does finishing the class make someone a qualified electrical worker?
No. Training is one input. Qualified is a determination the employer makes about a specific person on specific equipment, after training plus a demonstration of skills. Every attendee leaves with an individual qualification form and a documented Competency Check so that determination has something to stand on.
