In-person · Winter Park, COElectrical safety training in Winter Park, CO
Winter Park is the ski town at the west end of the Moffat Tunnel, in a county that also holds the headwaters reservoirs of the Colorado-Big Thompson Project and a co-op grid strung across 4,000 square miles. We train the electrical crews who keep Grand County's resort, pumping plants, clinics and rural lines running, at your facility or in an in-person class we set up in Winter Park when you ask.
Private employers in Colorado are inspected by federal OSHA. Every class is live, on the 2027 edition of NFPA 70E, and taught by a Certified Safety Professional. Colorado electrical safety training requirements →

Four ways to train your Winter Park crew
Crews we train in and around Winter Park: ski resort, electric co-op, water projects, mineral processing, health care, contractors and public employers.
What the class covers for Winter Park crews
Lift electricians maintain drives and controls on 23 lifts spread over Winter Park and Mary Jane. We cover lockout and energized work boundaries for lift terminals and mountain distribution.
Large pumps that lift water between reservoirs run on high horsepower motors. We tailor examples to motor control, switchgear and generator auxiliaries at water project sites.
Fire recovery means new services, temporary power and work near overhead lines. We cover approach boundaries and temporary wiring hazards for crews rebuilding homes and infrastructure.
A molybdenum mill with a 15 mile conveyor system has long runs of motors and controls. We walk through arc flash risk on conveyor drives and crusher motor control centers.

Colorado: what applies to your crews
Enforcement: federal OSHA
Without a state plan, Colorado's private employers in Grand County answer to federal OSHA's Denver Area Office, and the Henderson mill falls under MSHA. Town, county, school and hospital district electricians are public employees outside OSHA coverage.
Licensing: statewide
Electrical licensing runs through DORA's State Electrical Board, which grants master, journeyman and residential wireman licenses and registers apprentices and contractors, with no separate Grand County license.
Where NFPA 70E fits
OSHA does not enforce NFPA 70E. Grand County employers rely on it to document how they meet OSHA 1910 Subpart S and 1926 Subpart K, while OSHA retains the General Duty Clause for known electrical hazards.
Winter Park's electrical work environment
Winter Park Resort belongs to the City and County of Denver and is managed by Alterra Mountain Company. It runs 23 lifts, including a Leitner-Poma gondola added in 2018, from a 9,000 foot base to 12,060 feet, and Mary Jane has its own base area. Skiers arriving by train come through the Moffat Tunnel on the Winter Park Express, which returned in 2017, and the tunnel's big ventilation fans run after each train clears.
Water infrastructure is the county's other heavy electrical load. The Colorado-Big Thompson Project stores water in Lake Granby behind a 298 foot dam and lifts it 125 feet to Shadow Mountain Lake before it enters the 13.2 mile Adams Tunnel near Grand Lake. Reclamation owns and operates the system, which averages about 759 million kWh of hydropower a year. Denver also pulls West Slope water east through the Moffat Tunnel's pioneer bore.
Grand County had 15,717 residents in 2020, with Granby the largest town and Hot Sulphur Springs the county seat. Middle Park Health runs a critical access hospital in Kremmling and opened a Granby campus with a Level IV trauma center in 2012. Freeport-McMoRan's Henderson molybdenum mill sits near Parshall, at the end of a 15 mile conveyor from the mine under the Continental Divide. The East Troublesome Fire in 2020 destroyed 555 structures around Grand Lake, leaving years of rebuilding for local contractors.
A Denver owned resort and the Colorado River headwaters
Grand County mixes a major ski resort with federal water works, a mine mill and small town health care. These are the main sites.

Mountain Parks Electric across Middle Park
Mountain Parks Electric, headquartered in Granby and formed in 1946 to bring power to North Park, serves all of Grand and Jackson counties plus parts of Larimer, Routt and Summit counties. Its territory covers about 4,000 square miles, including most of Rocky Mountain National Park, with more than 20,000 meters on about 1,500 miles of distribution line.
Long rural feeders, deep snow and wildfire exposure define the co-op's work. Since 2020 it has financed solar and electrification projects for members through a $10 million USDA loan, which puts more inverters and heat pumps on member property. Federal hydro from the Colorado-Big Thompson system also runs through the county, so local crews see a wide range of equipment from rural transformers to large plant switchgear.
